We built the Teacher Portal dashboards in three simple layers: an at-a-glance teacher overview, a clear view for each class, and focused detail for individual students. Simplicity was the priority at every level, with content designed to be instantly digestible and easy to act on.
One area that we felt we could level up the product was providing teachers with focused, and useful results that tied up with the core student features. Results for assignments were created for teachers to be able to assess class results.
Performance and Progress metrics for students were seen as a key way to encourage activity, and improve retention. An activity tracker and Problem Keys keyboard was created to provide the user with some key performance data. A friendly, playful style was important to keep consistency across the student portal.
Illustration is a key component across the application for both teachers and students. I built up a illustration system for both iconography and illustration to be used across the app, mapping out different characters to different use cases. Spot illustrations were created in a similar style to be used across zero states.
